Wanted: (church) Room Parent
I’ve got four kids. After twelve years (so far) of driving a minivan to the local grade school, I've valiantly stepped into the role of room parent twice. But I’ve gotta be honest: after also doing my time of volunteering in weekly reading groups, I prefer the job of creating sign-ups from the comfort of my home (without kids attempting to push me over the edge every week) any time. To be clear, the sign-ups sometime require some creativity behind-the-scenes with a little pre-planning in order to know what the class party actually needs, but it sure is great when the parents sign up and the magic happens!
So. That got my wheels turning. The world has a bit of a situation on its hands as of late, but i’m thinking it’s nothing that a good “sign up genius” and a few dozen (thousands) churches can’t fix. I’ve been deeply bothered by so many good USAID projects getting paused and/or defunded. But you know what?! The U.S. government was never meant to be the hope of the world; Jesus and his church are! That whole “feed and clothe the poor” and “care for the sick” was supposed to be our gig in the first place. WHAT IF through the magic of a (massive, global, biblically-solid) sign-up list we could just take care of these things, filling the void the government has left (that was rightfully ours to begin with!)?! Churches could pick needs based on resources available (and a lot of faith), and lives all over the globe could be changed - and maybe even relationships built and the Gospel shared. Hope restored, world healing, his kingdom coming on earth as it is in heaven. Who’s in?
I’ll bring the cupcakes.
